- They are deep hibernators, and may sleep up
to 9 months of the year! (In Southern areas it may only hibernate 6-8 weeks).
- The eye sight and hearing are very well
developed!
- The woodchuck is sometimes considered a pest
because of its raids on crops, and the hazards posed by its burrows to farm machinery,
livestock, or irrigation systems!
- They also destroy undesirable weeds!
- The life span is about 5-6 years in the wild
and about 10 years in captivity!
