Western European Hedgehog
Erinaceus euopaeuc 
Range: Western Europe
Habitat: Woodland, grasslands, and urban areas - they occupy any area with sufficient food and shelter
Diet: Invertebrates including: beetles, worms, slugs, and grasshoppers 
Fun Facts:
  • Hedgehogs are primarily nocturnal.  They rely on their sense of smell and hearing
  • Their spiny coats are great defense. They have few predators including large owls, and badgers.  Dogs and foxes can occasionally overcome the spines.  
  • Roads are a major cause of death for hedgehogs.  Half of all deaths are caused by cars.
