- Otherwise known as a Short-nosed Rat Kangaroo, this marsupial was once believed extinct. It is now considered an endangered species.
- Bettongs are vulnerable to agricultural clearing and grazing animals because the density of cover and food affected.
- They forage between dusk and dawn. The daylight hours are spent in their nest, a shallow depression in the ground covered with grass or bark. They carry nesting material with their tails!
- A single young is born and remains in the pouch for 90 days. The joey stays with the mother until displaced by the next baby. The life expectancy is 4-6 years.
