Docent
What is a Docent?
Docent (doh-suhnt) is derived from the word "docere" meaning "to teach." Lake Superior Zoo docents are trained volunteers who dedicate 72 hours per year or approximately 6 hours per month to share their passion for the zoo with the community. With training and experience, a docent becomes qualified to provide an educational and tactile experience for zoo visitors and community events. Docents also assist with special projects and events.
How can you become a Docent?
Contact the Education Department to request an application. Successful completion of the application and interview process will lead to a month long training session and continuing training for active docents. If you would like to receive more information about this volunteer program, please call 218-730-4510 or email edu@lszoo.org.. Thank you for your interest in the zoo!
