Summer Adventure Camps 2011

Zoo camps offer a unique opportunity to learn about animals through hands-on exploration, games, art and crafts. Choose from half-day, full-day or week long camps. Participants should dress for the weather, as adventures will be held rain or shine.

Morning sessions start at 9am until noon. Afternoon sessions start at 1pm until 4pm. Full day sessions are from 9am-3pm. Full day participants should bring a bag lunch or plan to purchase lunch at the Safari Café. Please, no parents or siblings in program unless registered as a participant (with the exception of Zoo Tots). If visiting zoo grounds while waiting for a class in progress, please pay at admissions. Teachers will pick up and drop off participants outside of the main door by the lion statues.

Zoo Tots - ages 2 and under
Start your morning off right with a trip to the zoo with your tot! Enjoy a story, music, art, and a visit from one of our education animals. Every Monday morning starting June 6th- August 15th (except July 4th) at 10am.

Cub Club (ages 3 - 4) 2 hour classes & 3 day camps                                            
Fur, Feathers, & Scales: Animals are wrapped with different coverings. Meet some of our favorite furry, feathered and scaly friends on this adventure around the zoo!

How Big is a ....?: Based on the Book Actual Size by Steve Jenkins we will compare our bodies to the sizes of animals around the zoo.

The Bear Necessities: Bears are found all over the world, from the Arctic to the rainforests. Join us as we travel around the world to learn about these big furry creatures.

Cool Cats: Leopards, cougars, and tigers are on the prowl at the Lake Superior Zoo. Learn all about these amazing cats, where they live, how they hunt and what makes them cool.

Barnyard Buddies: Old McDonald had a farm, and so does the Lake Superior Zoo! Animals have important jobs on farms; we get food and products from farm animals. Come on down to our farm and get up close with these barnyard buddies.

There are many exciting elements that can be discovered through careful observation of the world around us. Animals create wild webs, nifty nests and crazy colors using a variety of shapes, patterns and colors to survive. Come explore the world of amazing animal artists!

Animal Grossology: EEEUW!! Some animals can be really disgusting! Find out all of the gross things that animals do to survive in this crazy world. Tues. June 21st pm

Eco - Explorers (ages 10 - 12) Full 4-day camp • 9 am - 3 pm
Animal Careers: Back by popular demand! Ever wonder what it's like to be a vet? A zookeeper? An animal trainer? Or even to design a zoo? This week-long camp explores careers in animal care.
June 20th-23rd
Adventures Around Town: Partnering with us to present this full day week-long camp is UMD's Recreation Sports Outdoor Program (RSOP). We'll meet up with them to explore different habitats by canoe, kayak and rock climbing! (six participants per session). July 11th-14th
